Something was sighted over Oneida, New York and headed westward. There were reports from

Utah. The object was seen over Reno, Nevada, then turned toward Las Vegas. It then turned
east again and exploded with a brilliant flash in the area of Mesquite, Nevada.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert K. checked into their vacation suite at the Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas,
Nevada. Their high-rise suite offered a view of McCarran Airport. At 5:45 p.m., while her
husband was downstairs, Mrs. K stepped onto the balcony and shot two color photographs.
Later, "when I came back to the room," Bob said, "she was getting dressed
in the other room, and I was watching the air traffic from the window. I noticed a plane
cross over controlled airspace on an outbound heading. Then I noticed above it at at least
double the altitude aircraft coming from the east on a due westerly heading. The closer
they got, I realized that they were flying echelon formation just a little too precise.
When the lead craft decelerated, the others kept an exact distance between them. They
eventually came to a complete stop and, to my amazement, hovered."
Calling for his wife to come and see this, Bob estimated that the UFOs "hovered at an
altitude of 8,000 to 10,000 feet. She handed me the camera, and I set the lens on zoom.
You could clearly see the ridges on the craft. The craft was ascending slowly and getting
smaller through the viewfinder. I did take a picture, and I could see the whole right side
of the UFO with the sun glaring off of it."

At 9:30 p.m., according to the AP report, Las Vegas Metro Police received "quite a
few calls" from residents, who reported a giant wedge-shaped or V-shaped UFO
northwest of the city, near Area 51.
"A police dispatcher who declined to give her name said she and other family members
spotted the mysterious object hovering in the sky about 9:30 p.m."
"'It was like a pyramid or a V-shaped wedge, with pulsating yellow lights,' the
dispatcher told the Associated Press. "It split up; then it came back together. 'We
got quite a few calls on it. From all reports, it was something similar to what was seen
over Phoenix'" on March 13, 1997.
"'It looked like they took the lights of a football field and put them way up in the
sky,' said the dispatcher's neice, who also requested anonymity. The woman said she has
never witnessed such a display in the 37 years she has lived in Las Vegas. She said her
husband and three children witnessed the lights, as well. 'They were these huge round
lights, like they were in formation,' she said, 'They were in a wide V-shape and they
broke up and disappeared.'"

At 5:45 p.m., a black or dark gray spheroid UFO flew west out of the desert and passed
over Sparks, Nevada. The UFO was described as about 60 feet in diameter with a bright
white light in the bottom hemisphere. The beam from the light, however, was not bright
enough to reach the ground. Crossing into the city of Reno, the UFO flew over Paradise
Park and headed west along Oddie Boulevard until it reached the Livestock Events Center,
just north of Interstate 80 and a mile or so north of downtown Reno and city hall. A Reno
P.D. cruiser spotted the UFO and halted. One officer called for backup. A second cruiser
arrived at 5:52 p.m. Several civilian eyewitnesses also approached the spot and watched
the hovering UFO. One witness reportedly shot four minutes of videotape with a camcorder
before the object abruptly vanished. When this sighting was reported on Reno TV stations,
the UFO was said to be a "runaway weather balloon."
